Job Description
The Operations Engineer (Systems Engineer) works In the Infrastructure Operations team and closely Interacts with Reinsurance development and application platform teams, platform domain and infrastructure teams, cloud platform engineering and architecture teams to operate our on-prem and cloud based core server estate.
The Operations Engineer ensures that all servers and services meet or exceed expected performance metrics and strict security and compliance objectives. This role will be responsible for new server deployments and overall server lifecycle, system software deployments, and regular monitoring of systems through established tools. The Operations Engineer will provide guidance to all team members and Reinsurance Service Delivery Management on system capacity and performance prescriptively.
The successful applicant is a multi discipline technologist and platform generalist up to date with technology trends in the industry. They must be entrepreneurial and a self-stater able to work independently to meet established goals. They will find opportunities to push their own technical skill set while providing infrastructure value through continued improvement in system stability, operations efficiency, and process.
The successful applicant will execute operations and engineering projects while providing support for and administration of infrastructure services, critical business applications and platforms, and associated systems.
- Provides guidance to engineering and operations teams on enabling and managing end to end availability and performance of mission critical services.
- Executes ad hoc tasks as required from other Infrastructure Team members
- Monitors scheduled jobs and product to ensure deployed automation is running as designed.
- Executes tasks aligned to projects in the operations space
- Ensures change management policies and processes are closely followed
- Participates in incident response, problem response, and root cause/postmortem analysis.
- Works on building configuration automation to eliminate waste and manual/repetitive tasks, prevent problem recurrence, and to respond to various service alerts and condition metrics.
- Work on security and vulnerability detection, remediation, and identification of opportunities for automation or improvement.
- Regularly reviews environments for resource capacity
- Regularly reviews servers for desired configuration
- Creates or updates state documentation, operating procedures and work instructions as needed to stay current with changes in environment.
- Promotes a continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration culture across
- Builds and strengthens relationships and partnerships with corporate infrastructure leads and
- Incumbents may be asked to perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of technology solutions, including concepts, practices, and methods of infrastructure operations and engineering in Azure, and IT tools (Solarwinds monitoring and logging, Opsgenie alerting, Service Now, etc.).
- Strategic problem solving, analytical and decision-making ability, with a sense of
- Windows Server system administration experiences
- Linux system administration exposure
- Demonstrated experience in a production
- Desire to measure and continuously improve in all areas with a metrics & reporting mindset.
- Experience with relevant technologies including configuration tooling (Ansible), and scripting (Powershell, Python, etc)
- Experience with Windows 2016, 2019 & 2022 Server, Office 365 and cloud solutions (Azure/AWS)
- Experience with Active Directory architecture including integration with Entra
- Experience with Azure cloud platforms.
- Experience with virtualization and hyperconverged platforms including VMware and Nutanix
- Ability to demonstrate strategic problem solving combined with efficient implementation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills can communicate technical concepts to a technical and non-technical audience.
- Exceptional Customer and End User Experience focus
- Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and build rapport to influence colleagues at all levels, uncover business issues, and identify needs.
- Experience with support of infrastructure for multi environment (DEV,STG,PRD) application environments.
- Experience working in a hybrid on- and off-shore mode
- Experience on working Monitoring Tools (Solarwinds)
- Instrument applications and infrastructure to provide comprehensive monitoring and alerting.
- Create and manage dashboards, alerts, and reports to support operational needs.
- Has experience working on compliance/audit reports including experience in audit response process
Additional Information
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems,or related field or equivalent additional work experience.
- 3 years equivalent work experience across infrastructure and software engineering roles.
