Commercial Finance Officer

Reports to: Chief Finance Officer (CFO) / Finance Manager

Overview

The Commercial Finance Officer is a key partner to the Business Units (BUs), Accounts, and Leadership teams, ensuring financial health through accurate forecasting, profitability analysis, and revenue management. This role bridges financial discipline with commercial strategy, ensuring that agency growth is sustainable, profitable, and operationally sound.

The Commercial Finance Officer is expected to be both an analyst and an advisor: actively interpreting numbers to provide commercial insights, risk assessments, and growth recommendations across clients, projects, and products.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Unit Support & Revenue Management

• Track and validate BU forecasts (Likely and Potential) monthly.
• Ensure timely recognition of revenue based on project timelines, completion milestones, and client payment schedules.
• Partner with BU Heads and Client Leads to assess profitability at client, project, and agency level.

Forecasting and Financial Planning

• Prepare and maintain rolling forecasts across BUs, highlighting deviations vs. original targets.
• Collaborate with management to adjust forecasts based on commercial realities and pipeline updates.
• Support scenario planning for new business opportunities or budget reallocations.

Contract, Billing, and Collections Alignment

• Review commercial terms in contracts (payment terms, billing milestones, incentives, penalties) to ensure financial viability.
• Coordinate with Accounts Receivable team to monitor collections and flag risks early.
• Track Work-in-Progress (WIP) and ensure timely billing in coordination with Project Managers and Account Leads.

Commercial Analysis & Reporting

• Provide monthly reporting on client-level and project-level profitability.
• Identify margin improvement opportunities across services, scopes, or resource allocations.
• Flag underperforming accounts or projects for escalation and action.

Operational Risk Management

• Review and recommend improvements to internal processes to strengthen financial controls and minimize commercial risks.
• Support audit processes, both internal and external, by providing commercial documentation and reconciliation support.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or any related field.
• 2+ years of experience in Finance roles, preferably with exposure to agency, consultancy, or project-based industries.
• Strong financial analysis and modeling skills (Excel proficiency required).
• Good understanding of revenue recognition, WIP management, and project accounting.
• Experience working with CRM/ERP platforms (e.g., Xero, Netsuite, Quickbooks, SAP).
• Commercial acumen and the ability to translate financial numbers into business strategies.
• Strong interpersonal skills — ability to work cross-functionally with leadership, Accounts, and Operations teams.
