Job Purpose

 

The Accounting Supervisor will oversee day-to-day accounting operations related to Australian financial activities, ensuring compliance with local regulations and company policies. This role will support accurate financial reporting, supervise junior accounting staff, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain the integrity of financial data.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Financial Oversight & Reporting

  • Supervise and review general ledger entries, reconciliations, and month-end closing activities.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB).
  • Ensure timely submission of BAS, PAYG, and other statutory reports.

 

Team Supervision

  • Lead and mentor a small team of accountants or finance officers.
  • Review work for accuracy and compliance and provide training where needed.

 

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Oversee AP/AR processes, ensuring timely invoicing, payments, and collections.
  • Resolve discrepancies and liaise with vendors and clients as needed.

 

Compliance & Audit Support

  • Ensure compliance with Australian tax laws and financial regulations.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to queries.

 

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
  • Implement best practices and support system upgrades or transitions.

 

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with HR, procurement, and other departments to ensure accurate financial data.
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and regulatory bodies as required.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CA qualification (or working towards).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of accounting experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., MYOB, Xero, SAP, or similar).
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience in a multi-entity or shared services environment.
  • Familiarity with payroll processing and superannuation compliance.
  • Exposure to financial reporting for NFP or education sectors (if applicable).
