HR Generalist plays a versatile role within the Human Resources department, handling a broad spectrum of HR functions to support both employees and management. Their responsibilities usually cover recruiting, employee relations, compliance, benefits, training, and performance management.

Here’s a breakdown of the key job responsibilities of an HR Generalist:

1. Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Post job openings, screen resumes, and schedule interviews.
  • Coordinate with hiring managers to identify staffing needs.
  • Conduct interviews and participate in the selection process.
  • Manage background checks, reference checks, and offer letters.
  • Facilitate smooth onboarding and orientation for new hires.

2. Employee Relations

  • Serve as the point of contact for employee inquiries, concerns, and conflict resolution.
  • Promote a positive work environment and company culture.
  • Handle employee grievances fairly and confidentially.

3. Compliance & Policy Management

  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, company policies, and regulations.
  • Assist in creating, updating, and implementing HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation.

4. Compensation & Benefits

  • Assist with payroll processing and accuracy of employee data.
  • Administer employee benefits programs (health, retirement, leave management, etc.).
  • Answer employee queries related to pay, benefits, and deductions.

5. Performance Management

  • Support managers in performance review processes.
  • Track employee performance goals and progress.
  • Assist with performance improvement plans (PIPs) when necessary.

6. Training & Development

  • Identify training needs through employee feedback and performance data.
  • Organize training sessions, workshops, and development programs.
  • Track employee learning and skill enhancement progress.

7. HR Operations & Data Management

  • Maintain HRIS (Human Resource Information Systems) and databases.
  • Generate HR reports on metrics like turnover, absenteeism, and hiring.
  • Ensure accuracy of personnel files and confidentiality of sensitive data.

8. Workplace Culture & Engagement

  • Organize employee engagement activities, team-building events, and recognition programs.
  • Conduct surveys to measure employee satisfaction and morale.
  • Recommend initiatives to boost employee motivation and retention.
